Afraid to take my 2 1/2 year old to the dentist?
Momof2 asked:
My daughter has not yet been to the dentist. Not because I haven't wanted to take her there, but because she is VERY hard headed and I know for a fact that she wouldn't cooperate or sit still. My husband and I have tried everything to get her to brush her teeth on her own and she won't, she hates it. Its come down to us having to hold her down every night and brush her teeth while she kicks and screams and hits. I've tried everything, videos, songs, having her watch me brush, an electric toothbrush, rewards etc…nothing has worked so far. I am hoping that she'll be better by the time she turns 3 and I was planning on taking her then as I know for a fact she would not cooperate for a dentist right now, even a pediatric dentist. They would literally have to strap all of her limbs down and hold her head still in order to get her to cooperate.
Anyone else been in a similar position and when were you finally able to take your child in?

i just took my 2 year old to the dentist this week for the first time. She hates the doctors and screams at the top of her lungs the whole time. So i assumed the dentist would be the same(Which is was) she was fine when we got that played in the waiting room and then when we got in the room she was also fine, they had music on and stuffed animals of spongebob and elmo the second the dentist got in the room she screamed the dentist im sure was use to it cause he did fine he did everything whike she was screaming and had no problem with it. He had me hold he on my lap on a round chair and hold her back and he did it like that, and after wards she was proud and kept showing me her teeth. Good luck everything will work out when you take her.

We have always just left the toothbrushes in their beds or where they can just sit and watch TV and chew on the toothbrush. It works for us……
I thought my daughter would bite the fingers of any dentist or person who dared get near her mouth…but she did surprisingly well. Just try it….you never know

Grow up and do the responsible thing and take her to the dentist. Your daughter should have been there 18 months ago and needs to be going every 6 months for cleanings and checkups. Find a good pediatric dentist. They are used to working with difficult kids and will do their best to keep her calm and to educate her about brushing too. It's really important that she go.
