I am petrified of the dentist – It has been over 2 years since I have had a cleaning! I have moved and am looking for a new dentist to get a check-up. All I need is a nice dentist for a cleaning and x-rays… I am willing to travel if anyone knows a kind dentist who will be aware of my dental-phobia.

My daughter has not yet been to the dentist. Not because I haven't wanted to take her there, but because she is VERY hard headed and I know for a fact that she wouldn't cooperate or sit still. My husband and I have tried everything to get her to brush her teeth on her own and she won't, she hates it. Its come down to us having to hold her down every night and brush her teeth while she kicks and screams and hits. I've tried everything, videos, songs, having her watch me brush, an electric toothbrush, rewards etc…nothing has worked so far. I am hoping that she'll be better by the time she turns 3 and I was planning on taking her then as I know for a fact she would not cooperate for a dentist right now, even a pediatric dentist. They would literally have to strap all of her limbs down and hold her head still in order to get her to cooperate.
Anyone else been in a similar position and when were you finally able to take your child in?

I saw a news special on this some time ago, where some pediatric dentists physically restrained crazy kids to the dentist's chair. Some kids who would not cooperate had their nose held so they could shove in a mouthpiece holding it open.

what i mean is that i am a sophomore in high school. in the summer im looking for colleges that may offer courses in the dental [pediatric preferably] area. i want like help for college and such. is there anything like this in new jersey? northern nj perhaps?

I took my son in for an exam and cleaning. Before the cleaning his hygienist said she wanted to do his x-rays first. This is not something they normally do so I assumed it was necessary this time. He gagged on the first set, so she tried again with a smaller set of four, no go. Then she tried again with a different set, no luck. During this process I pointed out that he was heavily congested in his nose, which would no doubt impede her attempts. After eight separate mouth pieces she moved on to the cleaning. His doctor arrived shortly thereafter, examined my son for maybe two minutes, was able to clearly see the problem areas, and then write out the recommendation to a pediatric dentist. It was at the receptionist's desk that I found out I would be held financially responsible for every single x-ray they put in his mouth. Am I wrong to expect billing for only the first set. He was clearly physically incapable of performing the task at hand. I feel as though I am being slightly fleeced. Any thoughts?
My son's mouth was in no state of emergency. His cavities are approx two the size of a pin head on two of his molars, nothing to prompt radical attention.

I have a 5 yr. old, and she just got her 4 front top teeth capped after her procedure, she was out of it (she was put to sleep) My first concern wasn't the teeth but that she was ok, got her home and took a look at them and I was just so disappointed. The two front teeth are slightly different but not too bad I can live with it, but the side tooth is longer than ALL her teeth so it looks funny. I want to know if they are able to file it down? The caps are silver on back and white in front, they said they are sturdier.

Our son has a dentist appt. over the Christmas Break- he does not yet know about it. He has autism and is terrified of the dentist, the lights, and the noise. He has not been to the dentist in 3 years but has been seen at the clinic and has no cavities. He needs a cleaning and a check-up. Our insurance will not cover pediatric dentists and they dropped the dentist we had seen- one our son loved. So…I am at a loss as to wether I can or should go in with him, wait in the waiting room, etc.
