Two year old at dentist?
Mommyto2 asked:
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. About 6 months ago, I took my 2 year old to a Pediatric Dentist. His teeth had a white line through the front two in the middle of the teeth. The dentist proceeded to tell me that it was my fault, because I developed an infection late in pregnancy that made him not develop enamil on the front two teeth. (This is true, I was attacked by my dog, a chow at 36 weeks pregnant and they almost lost both myself and my son). The dentist then told me that he will not treat it or clean my sons teeth until he can sit in the chair by himself. The dentist had a very big ego and made me feel like such a bad mom. He told me that I needed to practice better hygeine with him. I was already brushing his teeth two times a day, I left the office crying. He made me feel like a horrible person and mother, like this was my fault and I did it intentially. Well, I was looking at my sons teeth again today, and they look much worse. I think they need cleaned and possibly treated. As I said he refused to do that until he will sit alone and I know he's too young for that at this point. We have another appt with him on Tuesday, because my son is pointing at his mouth and saying "owi". I just want to know if I can go in and if he doesn't want to clean them, if I can push him and ask that he do that. I have looked for other dentists, but there are not many, and most of them are in the ghetto. I can't get a good referral from anyone regarding one. I called my dentist and that's all that they could give me. My question is, has anyone had their two year olds teeth cleaned and/or treated? If they did, how did they do it? If anyone knows of any good pediatric dentists in Central Ohio/Columbus area, I would be grateful for their information. Thank you!

Why would your dog attack you?
You should sue the dentist.

this guy's an @ss. find a new dentist. take him to your regular dentist, he doesn't need a special one for pediatrics. do not see this guy again!
if your dentist can't help, ask his pediatrician to take a look. you can also check out the hospital services.

If you're brushing his teeth twice a day, don't worry. They really shouldn't get worse in such a short time. If he still has a bottle or sippy cup, try to get him off it and especially if you are putting him to bed with a bottle still, just put plain water. It's the only drink that will not cause decay.
If he is good and lets you thoroughly brush his teeth without too much fuss, then he SHOULD be able to sit in a dental chair. The dentist will not be able to work on him if he is uncooperative and MOST two year olds are not. Talk to him about going to the dentist and maybe read a couple of happy dentist stories. Kids pick up on negative vibes too so, if your dentist is not very friendly, it may make your child more apprehensive. Try to find another dentist or ask your own dentist what he recommends. They may want to use a sedative with him so that he is more cooperative. If he is squirming and crying and not holding his mouth open, it will be nearly impossible for the dentist to do ANYTHING.
It's not your fault that you had a fever while you were pregnant. But, since his teeth have weak enamel, you will have to take extra care to keep them clean.

He had no right to treat you like that. That's very unprofessional. If you really can't take him somewhere else,go back there and demand some respect and a treatment for your child's hurting tooth.Talk to him about nytres oxide or any other child sedation. If nothing works, call your dental association and make a complaint against him. Then find another pediatric dentist.
